It was at our end of the field, right there in front of us. Third and goal with less than a yard to get into the endzone. Two shots to push it in. I’ve seen the Wolverines punch it in routinely from this distance so many times over all the years. Our brilliant OC sets the team up in their Rhino formation, an expected alignment this season (but makes no sense to me) and Indiana is bunched on the line of scrimmage. The ball is snapped and Tommy Carr begins to float backward away from the line of scrimmage without having handed off the ball. WTF! The Hoosiers collapse on our freshman QB for a big loss and fourth down. The play call was for a pass to the Rhino, our sixth or seventh best OL. WTF!! We miss the kick, deflate the team and end up losing in OT without even sniffing the endzone. Completely wasted a brilliant and decisive defensive performance against one of the top offenses in football. And this isn’t the only instance of boggling offensive strategy and play calling by Jason Beck, our OC. Other blogs have documented the ineptitude over the season better than I could. Just WTF??
While I am on diatribes, we still do not know the kickoff time for the msu game because TV has tossed us into the six-day-hold bucket. Normally, we find out kick times 13 days prior. But that is not the point I want to make. N idea why this occurred to me this week after all these years but NCAA football is the ONLY sport in this country where the gametimes are not announced ahead of the season. Sure other sports have their TBA games here and there but take a look ahead in the NCAA football schedule and you will see nothing but TBA listed. This doesn’t just apply to the week to week schedule but future schedules as well. I can plan my Tigers’ games for next summer but have no clue whether the Wolverines will be playing Texas on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or even Monday next Labor Day weekend. The entities in control do not give a shit about the fans.
With that, Go Blue!!
